Priest who served in the temple of the Imperial Cult

This statue was recovered from Ephesus (Gr. Ἔφεσος Efesos; Turkish Efes; Hittite Apasa; modern Selçuk in İzmir Province, Turkey) and dates from the 2nd cent. AD. The priesthood of the emperor (imperial) cult was usually held by the local aristocracy, providing them with political status and a means of social advancement.
